Tower of Allen, Hill of Allen

Week Long Event. Just 10km from Newbridge and Kildare and 15km from Naas, this magnificent tower was built in 1859 by Sir Gerald George Aylmer.

The tower commands extensive views of the surrounding countryside.

The Hill of Allen is a volcanic hill surrounded by the Bog of Allen which rises to a height of approx. 676 ft.

The Tower is also known as "Alymer's Folly" and it rises to approx. 60 ft. from the base.
It has an internal diameter of approximately 9 ft. 

The tower is built of limestone, the tower has an internal staircase leading to the top where you enter the upper platform which is covered by a canopy. 

The names of the men and women who built the tower is inscribed on each step.
