Exhibition: Under A Grey Sky

Exhibition: Under A Grey Sky

A solo exhibition of photographs by Simon Burch.

Simon Burch has created an archive in this body of work that will in future years serve as a valuable visual record of lost landscapes.

This work of landscapes and portraits was taken over a period of four years and is located in the centre of peat production in Co. Offaly and parts of Co. Galway. The harvested peat is used as fuel for power stations, to provide electricity for the National Grid and is also sold for domestic use in the form of peat briquettes.

The  culmination of these commercial efforts is now represented in the black landscapes of developed bogs, but this natural resource is finite and production is estimated to cease in 15-20 years.

Simon’s work focuses on the black landscapes of turf and the community and individuals who live and work there.
Simon Burch will be giving a talk on Saturday, March 13, 10.30am to 12.30pm

Please see riverbank.ie for further details and booking information.
