THE WAKE

THE WAKE

by Tom Murphy, Directed by Barbara Sheridan

The February offering from the Moat Club sees the return of All Ireland award winning director Barbara Sheridan who directs THE WAKE by Tom Murphy.

A haunting, yet fiercely comic play about unfulfilled hopes and harsh realities THE WAKE is one of Murphy's finest plays and was first performed in 1998.

Its central character, Vera O'Toole, is alone and living dangerously in New York where she survives as a call-girl. Her one sustaining thought is her dream of returning to her family in Ireland. She has long nursed a fantasy of belonging. Now as the story begins she returns home to pay her respects to her dead and beloved grandmother and to discover her dream turning into a nightmare.

This will be a night at the theatre to remember, bringing to life, as the Moat Club does best, the pathos, the comedy, the humanity of Murphy's fine script.

This play contains strong language which some may find offensive.
