Leinster Trophy at Mondello Park

Formula Vee stars to contest 'Leinster Trophy' feature race

The Leinster Motor Club's traditional season ending 'Leinster Trophy' event hits the Mondello Park International circuit this weekend with a programme which includes Single Seater, Saloon and Sportscar Racing alongside the feature 'Leinster Trophy' race for Formula Vee.

The annual two day festival of motor racing will include races for all of the Irish classes, with many holding their final championship rounds. The highlight of the weekend however, will be Sunday afternoon's 'Leinster Trophy' feature race, which for the second year in succession will be contested by the country's most popular racing class, Formula Vee. The Formula Vee drivers will get their championship race out of the way on Saturday before turning their attention to Sunday's non-championship 'Leinster Trophy' battle.

Last seasons event saw a huge field contest the feature race with a number of former Vee racers making a return to the class to try to get their hands on the famous trophy and add their names to the likes of Mika Hakkinen and Ayrton Senna. Class returnee and 2005 Formula Vee Irish champion Gary Newsome starred on his comeback, taking a lights to flag win to beat all of the championship's regular racers. This season a similarly strong field of drivers is expected with a number of former champions and race winners joining in for Sunday's event.

Saturday's programme will be made up of Single Seater and Sportscar races. Formula Vee and Formula Libre will provide the single seater action, while the Global Light, Striker and Historic classes will make up the sportscars portion of the nine race programme. Sunday will see a further eleven races run with Vee's and Libre being joined by Formula Sheane to provide the open wheeled action. Saloons will be to the fore in the remainder of the days races with double headers for the Irish Touring Car Championship, all three Fiat classes and the new Ginetta Junior Ireland championship for fourteen to seventeen year olds.

Admission to each day of this weekends event is €15.00 for adults with under sixteen's admitted free of charge. Adult admission can be reduced to just €10.00 by printing off a reduced price voucher from the special offers page of the Mondello Park web site and as a further offer four adults arriving together in the one car will be admitted for just €25.00. All admission prices include free Grandstand seating and a complimentary event programme.
