Description:
Clongowes Wood College is located on a 215 acre campus near the village of Clane, Co Kildare. It is approximately 20 miles west of Dublin city. The first mention of Clongowes Wood, (or Silva Cluain na Gobhain as it was then known) occurs in the time of Henry IV, dated 24 February 1418. It means 'The wood of the meadow of the smith'. The Castle at Clongowes was built shortly after 1450, and was restored in 1718 and enlarged in 1788.
