COURSE TITLE: TRAINEE JOCKEY COURSE

DURATION: 28 Weeks

COURSE AIM: Trainees will acquire the skills necessary to gain employment and opportunities in the horse racing industry.

COURSE CONTENT:
Induction
Safety & Hygiene
Riding and Stable Management
Communications
Mathematics
French
Life Skills
Physical Education


First Term:

One week computer module.
One week safety, hygiene and induction module.
Twelve weeks riding and stable management module.

Second Term:
Mornings are spent on the job training under the supervision of local racehorse trainers
Afternoons are spent attending classroom lectures and practical sessions.
Subjects include communications, mathematics, French, stable management, life skills and physical education.

Third Term:
Full time on the job training under the supervision of local racehorse trainers, including morning and evening stables and leading up at the races.

Evening Activities:
Every evening there are organised activities including computers, art, simulator training, sports and study periods.

TRAINEE PROFILE:
Age: At least 15 and less than 18 years of age before July 1st.
Weight and Height: Less than 9 stone.
Riding Experience: Not required.
Education: A school reference is required.
Health: A medical certification is required.

Suitable candidates will be required to complete a two week trial in July, those selected will start the course proper in August.

CERTIFICATION: FETAC Level II in Racehouse Care and Exercise
FETAC Level I in Stable and Yard Routine
FETAC Foundation and Level I in Communications, Personal Effectiveness and Maths
