Human Rights Youth Theatre Festival

6th annual festival of workshops and performances from over 100 young people working with acclaimed artists to explore gender issues and human rights through theatre.

Developed by Crooked House Theatre Company with Kildare Youth Theatre, and support.

Over 100 young people will gather for the best part of a week in Riverbank from Tues 29th July to Sat 2nd Aug to train, discuss, rehearse and perform in a theatre festival exploring various issues affecting women in Ireland and the developing world.

They will work with professional theatre artists for the week to devise new performances that will be shown on Saturday evening from 7pm onwards.

On each other evening there will be productions that the young people will have made in their home communitoes and brought to the festival to perform for the public.  These are:

Tuesday 29th:

8pm - Kildare Youth Theatre present a devised piece of theatre about substance abuse (supported by the Drugs Task Force)

8.30pm - Prosperous Youth Drama present two short plays, directed by Daniel Clarke. 'The Bond' by Robert Frost, and 'Dinah' devised by the group.

Wed 30th:

8pm - Celbridge Passion Club present a new short play called 'Box' by Padraig Scanlon.

8.30pm - Griese Youth Theatre, Ballitore present 'Taking Breath' by Sarah Daniels.

Thurs 31st:

8.00pm - Independent Youth Theatre, Ranelagh present a new devised piece directed by Karl Walson.

8.30pm - Celbridge Youth Drama present 'After Juliet' by Sharman Mac Donald.

Fri 1st Aug:

8.00pm - Kildare Youth Theatre present ' A Vampire Story' by Moira Buffini, directed by Peter Hussey.

9.30pm - Performance Lab, Ballymun present 'Touched' by Ursula Rani Sarma, directed by Louise Lowe.

Sat 2nd Aug:

7pm - performance of 5 new pieces made during the week, and directed by Jo Mangan (Artistic Director of The Performance Corporation); Louise Lowe (Artistic Director of Performance Lab); Deirdre Rpycroft (Actor, Loose Canon Theatre Company); Peter Hussey (Artistic Director, Crooked House) and Ciarán Gray (Choreographer).  Followed by diescussion with audience about the themes explored in the pieces.

 

The Human Rights Theatre Festival begins for participants at 11am each day with workshops by Jillian Bradbury (Voice), Neil Connolly (Improvisation), Sensao Maia (Cappoeira), Ciarán Gray (Dance) and Eric Higgins (Stage Combat).  Public performances are in the evenings.
