Veteran broadcaster, Donncha 0’Dulaing comes to Monasterevin on Sunday, April 5th for an historic charity walk around the 15 bridges of the town traditionally known as the Venice of Ireland to raise funds for a very needy family in Bosnia.

Ms. Patricia Keane, director of Rebuild for Bosnia sealed the services of the affable RTE broadcaster when he was master of ceremonies at their Christmas concert in Moore Abbey, December last. The enigmatic Donncha offered his services to the charity having heard about the plight of Marko Brekalo , a 21 year old severely disabled young man confined to bed in a family with no income in a very rural part of the country with absolutely no social services or medical back up of any kind.

Donncha said he was enchanted with the history of the bridges around Monasterevin and he said he would love to do a charity walk in the town. Famous for his charity treks around the world, Donncha 0’Dulaing will start from the Hazel Hotel at 3.30pm on Sunday, April 5th and follow a route over and under the 15 bridges across the Barrow River and the Grand Canal.

The walk is very historic, also re-traces the steps of poet , Gerard Manley Hopkins along the canal where the renowned scribe sketched and wrote during his stays with Miss Cassidy. This adventure around Monasterevin is 10km and sponsorship cards can be obtained from Rebuild for Bosnia, Beechfield Office Suite, Athy Road, Monasterevin, Co. Kildare.
