A celebration of the life of Ernest Shackleton and the legendary voyage of HMS Endurance on an expedition to cross the Antarctic continent. Shackleton was a Kildare man, born in Kilkea, and had gained a reputation for courage and leadership on previous Antarctic expeditions. What started as a great geographical and scientific adventure turned into a dramatic rescue of the crew from the Endurance trapped in the Weddel Sea ice. Shackleton used his exceptional leadership and courage to lead all the crew to safety.
The music is by Brian Hughes, uileann pipes and whistle player, in combination with the County Kildare Orchestra to produce a fusion of traditional instruments and full orchestra. The narration by John McKenna introduces the 8 movements reflecting the story above. A slide show of original glass plate photographs is projected to complete the picture
