The Plough and the Stars is one of O'Casey's most popular plays ever since its first notorious run in the Abbey Theatre in 1926.

In the 21st century, O'Casey's vision of looking at the historic events of the 1916 Rising through the viewpoint of the ordinary people of the tenements is even more important. In his characters, O'Casey depicts the culture of the Dublin he lived in, and puts the speeches and actions of leaders such as Pearse firmly in context.

In this production CYD takes a fresh look at the world of the play in the light of O'Casey's overall vision. Young actors bring energy to the peice as well as an understanding of how the play works for them.
