The instruments were made by Yeates & Sons and Spencer & Grubb who exported telescopes all over the world and were associated with Birr Observatory in Co. Offaly.
The museum is centred around the Rev Prof. Nicholas Canon, inventor of the induction coil. There is also a large collection of ecclesistical items on display and one of only two death masks of Daniel O'Connell.
