Having  spent many years playing, studying the music, and indeed learning to build his own instrument,  he is now a leading exponents of the Bardic harp, our national emblem. Paul not only plays some lively traditional Irish music but he also plays medieval tunes once heard in the great halls of Ireland.

This will be a great opportunity for Leaving and Junior Cert students to see and hear an artist who is mentioned on their curriculum talk about this most Irish and ancient of instruments, which is quite different from the modern nylon strung version.

"..they love music mightily and of all the instruments are particularly taken with the harp, which being strung with brass wire, and beaten with crooked nails, is very melodious.." Fr John Good 1550

Paul will play tunes from Cerdd Dant, the music of the string, and will also talk to us about his music, the instrument and it’s traditions. Join us at Athy Heritage Centre on Sunday afternoon April 20th between 12.30 and 4.30pm for this and all the other activities we have planned.
