The Songs of 1916 - Poll

Kildare Library and Arts Services have launched a poll to discover the song that people most identify with the Easter Rising of 1916.

Sixteen songs were chosen for the poll. Mario Corrigan, Executive Librarian with the Kildare Library and Arts Service explained, “The songs were chosen by us after a little bit of online research and personal struggle, but we think they represent the most popular of the songs associated with the Rising. Essentially the poll is designed to add a little fun to the programme and we hope people take the time to vote”.

The poll is being run through the county's dedicated website for the 1916 commemorations; www.kildare2016.ie. As the website will continue to bring information and news on the commemorative programme throughout 2016, the voting will remain open for the duration of the year. However, the library service plans to run a competition based on the number of votes taken up to midnight on 24 April - the 100th anniversary of the date the Rising began in 1916.
