Development
and expansion has been the policy of the Athy branch of the Irish
Wheelchair Association since its foundation in 1969. Social evenings,
home visits to members and day outings progressed to full holidays
and very basic day care by the voluntary workers.
Full day activity service was the natural follow-up and Teach Emmanuel was the answer. This centre is a partnership between the Eastern Health Board and the Athy Wheelchair Association. The centre was built by the Eastern Health Board and furnished and equipped by the branch. It is a model of its kind. |
