Dec 21st 2010:  Seasons Greetings

We have now finished our training for this year and on behalf of the committee we would like to wish all our members, parents and patrons a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year. We would also like to thank our dedicated coaching team for their excellent work and commitment throughout the year

Nov 25th 2010:  Club League

We have had 2 great rounds of our own club league and the final round and presentations will be next Tuesday starting at 6pm as usual. We have had a great turnout of parents and children so far particularly on these dark cold winter nights. See you next Tuesday.

Nov 14th 2010:  County Senior Cross Country

We had three runners at the county senior cross country today. In the women’s event, Liz Foy  retained her title and was ably backed up by Brigid Fitzsimmons  in fourth place. In the men’s event John Fitzsimmons came home a very good 9th place.

Liz made it a double on the day by claiming the best overall senior womens athlete for the year and Lara Curran made it a mother-daughter double by winning the best overall u/16 girl athlete for the year. Congrats to both.

Nov 8th 2010:  Leinster Uneven Ages Cross Country

We had five athletes representing their county teams at Adamstown on Sunday.  In the girls U/11 Lara Curran, competing for the first time in Leinster, finished a very good 16th overall. Next up was Tadhg Murtagh in the boys U/11. After a good start he was tripped entering the first corner and after a “dive-forward-role” he managed to get back on his feet and pursue the leaders eventually finishing 33rd. We had 2 competitors, John Fitzsimmons and Mathew Doyle, in the  boys U/13 and they came home in 19th and 71st. Last but not least Niall Kelly finished just outside the medals in 14th position after a tremendous last half kilometer effort in the boys U/15.

Nov 5th 2010:  Leinster Start time changed back 

The start time for part 2 of the Leinster Cross Country Championships (Uneven ages) has been rescheduled back to its original start time of 12pm. See the Leinster Athletics website for full details.

Oct 28th 2010:  Important Announcement

The start time for part 2 of the Leinster Cross Country Championships (Uneven ages) has been changed to the earlier time of 11:30am. See the Leinster Athletics website for full details.

Oct 28th 2010:  Even Age/Masters—Leinster Cross Country Championships

We had just one competitor at Belvedere House on Sunday. Liz Foy was competing in the Masters cross country and came home fourth overall and third in category. Well done Liz

Oct 10th 2010:  Even Age—County Cross Country Championships

No medals for the juveniles but plenty of excellent running at Crookstown on Sunday. In the boys under 10 Luke McCann came home 13th. In the boys u/12 our team of Cian, Robbie, Connor and Alex finished  18th, 23rd, 26th and 27th respectively but didn’t win a team medal. In the girls under 10 Sarah Fitzsimmons finished 15th.

Our masters came up trumps with a medal however with Liz Foy winning the O/40 category in women’s. Johnny Fitzsimmons came home fourth in the O/45s.

Oct 4th 2010:  County Cross Country Championships

The cross country season kicked off with the odd ages championships last Sunday in beautiful sunshine in  Caragh. First up were the under 9s, making their debut at cross country running and Ava Gleeson, Stephanie Keane and Tom Mason all did themselves proud. In the under 11 girls Lara Curran led home the field taking gold and our team of Aoife, Emma and Cliodhna missed out on the medals coming 6th team. In the race of the day Tadhg Murtagh came home fourth after a titanic battle for 2nd/3rd and 4th ended up with him missing out by the smallest of margins. In the under 13 boys John Fitzsimmons  finished in the silver medal position and Matthew Doyle fought hard to keep 10th place and so makes the county team for the Leinsters next month. In the under 15 boys Niall Kelly fought all the way before eventually coming home a very good second place. In the senior events Liz Foy finished second across the line in the ladies sealed handicap while Dominic Gleeson  turned back the clock in the intermediate mens.

Oct 1st 2010:  Odd Ages Cross Country Distances

The cross country season kicks off this Sunday in Caragh with the odd ages county cross country championships over longer distances than previous years, so  it will be a big challenge to all our competitors particularly the younger ones.  Events kick off at 12pm so please be there around 11:15am for warm up .

Aug 18th 2010:  All Ireland Masters Track and Field

All our 5 competitors came away with medals at the All-Ireland Masters Track and Field championships held on Sunday last in Tullamore. Top of the bill was Catherine Kenny winning gold in V1  Shot, Discus, Hammer and Javelin. Liz Foy (V2) had two second paces in the 800m and 3000m with Brigid Fitzsimmons taking bronze in the V3 300m also. In the V5 shot putt and long jump Sheelagh Morrissey won gold and our  mens entry Mick Kenny claimed a silver and bronze in the throwing events. Well done to all.

July 27th 2010:  All Ireland Track and Field

Congratulations  to Michael Kenny who won silver in the Junior Men 35lb Height at the national track and field championships in Santry and then won bronze in the U/18 Boy’s Discus at the national juvenile track and field championships in Tullamore two weeks later.

July 6th 2010:  Latest Updates

County League: Congratulations  to all our athletes on coming 3rd club in section B of the county track and field league  (some photos here)

Fun Athletics: Great morning had by all (between the showers) on our finishing up fun day on Sunday last. (Photos here)

Back to work: We will return on Tuesday 24th August for training for the cross country season.

June 28th 2010:  Fun Athletics Evening Postponed

As a mark of respect to the McConnan family on the untimely death of former member Shirley, the end of season special fun evening is postponed and will now take place on Sunday morning next at 10:30am. Our sincerest sympathies to the McConnan family.

June 27th 2010:  Summer Break

The last training session of the season will take place on next Tuesday night with a special fun and games evening at 6 o’clock. We will resume in September. Have a great summer everyone and see you on Tuesday night.

June 27th 2010:  County League

The last round of the county league took place in glorious sunshine in Crookstown today. There was a great turn out and marvelous performances all round. The final results of the inter-club league will be available during the week but we had excellent individual wins for the best points scorers: Ava Gleeson U/8, Lara Curran U/11, Tadhg Murtagh U/11, Jack Banahan U/12, Matthew Doyle U/13 and Niall Kelly U15.

June 21st 2010:  Leinster Juveniles

Congratulations to Michael Kenny who picked up gold in the Leinster U/18 shot putt and silver in the discus at the weekend in Tullamore

June 6th 2010:  Clean Sweep at the Leinster Masters

Our “master “ athletes went on a bit of a medal spree in Tullamore  on Sunday with virtually a clean sweep of the events they took part in. Sheelagh Morrissey led the way with 4 gold medals in category 5 with wins at 200m, 400m, long jump and shot putt. In category 2 Liz Foy came away with gold in the 800m and 1500m.  For the men Mick Kenny won gold in the discus and weight for age and bronze in the shot putt in category 4. Congratulation to all 3.

June 5th 2010:  County ’B’ Championships

There was another chance for our athletes who missed out on in the county championships in Celbridge on Saturday. Well done all who took part and especially to our medal winners, Aoife Mason, Cian Ryan, Alex McCann and Ava Gleeson

May 28th 2010:  Little Athletics Jamboree

Despite the premature ending of the evening due to the heavy rain all our younger athletes thoroughly enjoyed the Little Athletics fun in Newbridge last evening. Thanks to Pat Ryan (AAI) and Newbridge AC for hosting the event.

May 19th 2010:  County Track and Field League — Round 3

Despite the persistent rain, we had a great turnout for round 3 of the league at Le Chéile last night., with all athletes contributing valuable points  for the team. We had double winners in Ava Gleeson, Tadhg Murtagh, Lara Curran and Niall Kelly and special mention to Aoife Mason who ran a season best in the U/11 girls 300m. Now to see whether we have moved up in the medal positions ahead of the last round of the league in June.

Next up is the fun Little Athletics evening for 6—10 year olds in Newbridge on Thursday May 27th at 7pm—this is a weather dependent evening so may be moved to an indoors venue if it rains— please check before you travel.

May 16th 2010:  County Track and Field Championships—Part 2

In slightly better weather than round 1 we had another successful day in the second round of the county track and field championships at Naas on Sunday. Congratulations and well done to all who competed and contributed to our fine medal haul of 15, comprising of  7 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze.

The County B championships will now take place on Saturday June 5th in Celbridge and the last round of the league is on Sunday 27th June in Crookstown.

May 14th 2010:  Next Events

Sunday — County Championships at Naas—meet at 11:15am

Tuesday 18th —  Round 3 of the league at Le Cheile — meet at 6:15pm

May 4th 2010:  Leinster Masters Road Race

Congratulations to our 3 masters women who competed in the Leinster Masters Road Race in Gowran on Monday, representing both club and county.

They narrowly missed out on both the club and county team medals finishing 5th. Liz Foy finished 3rd overall and first in the V2 category. Sandra Fitzsimmons finished 27th overall and 9th in the V1 category. Brigid Fitzsimmons finished 31st overall and 5th in the V3 category. Full results on the Results page

 

May 2nd 2010:  County Track and Field Championships—Part 1

Congratulations and well done to all who competed in the first round of the county track and field championships at Celbridge on Sunday and contributed to our fine medal haul of 16, comprising of  7 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze. Full results are here but special mention is required for the performance of the day from the evergreen D.J.McCann who competing for the first time  (in who knows how many years) won gold in the Masters V2 Shot Putt.

Apr 18th 2010:  Crookstown Open Sports

We had a team of 17 competitors in Crookstown for their annual open sports on Sunday. There were many great individual performances in all events and we managed a haul of 2 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze in the individual events.

Amazingly we fielded 4 relay teams at u/14 boys, u/12 boys. u/11 girls and u/10 boys winning 2 bronze medals in the U/14 boys and U/11 girls. Special merit goes to our u/10 team of Tom Mason, Sarah Fitzsimmons, Luke McCann and Eadaoin Murtagh who competed as a mixed team in the U/10 boys 4x100 and performed very well but missed out on the medals

Apr 12th 2010:  County League—Round 2

The 2nd round of the County League took place in Celbridge on Sunday in glorious sunshine. We were in 5th place in Group B at the start of the day but great performances from all involved, particularly our first-timers should see us climb up a few places.

Next up is the Crookstown Open Sports next Sunday followed by the first round of the county championships on May 2nd.

Apr 6th 2010:  County Senior Road Race

Congratulations to Liz Foy and Bridgie Fitzsimmons who competed in the senior road races in Kildare on Sunday last. Liz won the event with Bridgie 4th. 

Mar 16th 2010:  County Masters Road Race

Congratulations to our ladies masters team on winning the team prize at Naas last Sunday

Mar 16th 2010:  County League—Round 1

The County League Round 1 kicks off this Saturday at 2pm in Newbridge. Hopefully we will have a big turnout and get our campaign off to a good start.

Mar 1st 2010:  Leinster Juvenile Indoors

Well done to our 3 competitors in Nenagh on Sunday. John Fitzsimmons finished 2nd in both the 600m and long jump u/13. Matthew Doyle finished 7th in the same long jump event. In the boys u/15, Niall Kelly finished outside the medals in his two events, the 800m and long jump.

Feb 22nd 2010:  All-Ireland B and Masters Cross Country

We had 3 competitors in the final cross-country meeting of the season. Tadhg Murtagh was first up in the u/11 boys. He finished overall 41st and was a scoring member of the county team that came 5th. John Fitzsimmons was next up in the u/13 boys. This was one of the re-run races from Coleraine and was an A and B race. John finished in 34th place in A race, 12th in the B race and a member of the gold medal winning Kildare team in the B race.

In the masters women Liz Foy ran a great race to finish 17th overall

Feb 20th 2010:  County League Fixtures

The dates for the county league have been announced:

Round 1: Newbridge — March 20th

Round 2: Celbridge — April 11th

Feb 1st 2010:  Leinster Indoor Junior/Senior/Masters

Another good day for our masters and junior athletes at the Leinster Indoor Championships in Nenagh on Sunday last.

Sheelagh Morrissey competing in W5 won gold in 200m, 400m, long jump and shot putt, setting championship records in all events.

Liz Foy won gold in 800m and 3000m in category W2

In men’s category M4 Mick Kenny won silver in the long jump and gold in the both the shot putt and 35lb for weight competition.

In the junior men’s competition Michael Kenny picked up silver in the shot putt and gold in the 35lb for weight competition.

Jan 27th 2010:  All-Ireland Indoor Masters

Congratulations to our two competitors Sheelagh Morrissey and Mick Kenny  in the All-Ireland indoor masters last Sunday in Nenagh. Sheelagh won 3 gold (200m, 400m and long jump) and Mick took home a silver in the men’s 300m walk..

Due to the inclement weather there will be no training this week and we will resume next week—Tuesday 19th Jan.
