Dec 14th 2011: Club Championships

Almost 40 hardy souls braved the coldest evening of the year to compete in the annual club championships held in the park on Tuesday night. First up were the U/7s where Aislinn led home her cousin Saoirse for a 1-2 for the Murtaghs. Ben Curran took the gold in the boys U/7. The girls u/8 event was won by Kiki Darling. Five girls took part in the girls U/9 which was won by Ava Gleeson followed home by Eadaoin Murtagh, Zelie Dunne, Laura Hopkins and Aine Fennelly. Nov 30th 2011: NO Training tomorrow night

Due to a technical issue with the lights, there will be no training tomorrow night—Thursday 1st December

Nov 28th 2011: All-Ireland Cross Country Championships

Tadhg Murtagh and Lara Curran represented the club as part of the county and Leinster teams in Sligo on Sunday. Although the weather was good the conditions under foot on the track were very muddy with many fallers throughout the day. Lara was first up in the girls u/12 and finished 43rd in a big bunch finish. There was no luck for the county team but the Leinster team took the silver medal. It was a similar story in the boys U/12 where once again the Leinster team came 2nd and the county well outside the medals. Tadhg came home 87th of a huge field. Well done to both for making the long trek west.

Nov 13th 2011: Leinster Cross Country Odd Ages Championships

Tadhg Murtagh was our only competitor in  Adamstown today in the boys under 13 event. He finished a very credible 45th over the 2500m course and was a non-scoring member of the Kildare County team that took the bronze medal.

Nov 11th 2011: Club Under Age Championships

The club championship underage races will take place over 2 evenings, Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th December  starting at 6pm each evening. There will be races for every age group from under 7s upwards. These will be two great evenings of competition and we encourage all  members to attend and bring along all your family and friends. Best of luck to everyone.

Oct 30th 2011: Leinster Cross-Country Even Ages Championships

We had 4 competitors at the provincial championships today, 2 masters (Johnny and Brigid Fitzsimmons) and 2 juveniles (Tadhg Murtagh and Lara Curran). First up in the girls u/12, Lara Curran came home a comfortable 3rd place giving great chase to try and claim silver. With her county team mate taking gold the girls county team won the bronze medal. Next up were the boys u/12 and once again we had a double medal winner with Tadhg Murtagh taking 12th and the last  individual medal place and being 3rd man home on the county team that were also placed 3rd. Both Tadhg and Lara will now represent both county and province in the All-Ireland in Sligo at the end of November.

In the boys u/14 the unfortunate John Fitzsimmons would have been running except he broke his leg last week in a freak accident while training. We wish John a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back in the new year.

In the masters, Johnny Fitzsimmons came 45th overall and 21st in his category. Brigid came home 13th overall and a brilliant 6th in category. Well done to both.

For the boys the u/9 team of Jamie Scanlon, Cormac Walsh, Aidan Clinch and Cian Searing took the silver medal. The boys u/11 were unlucky to be just outside the medals in 5th position as were the boys u/15 who were 4th. The boys u/13 were our second medal winners on the day taking the bronze medal. The team was Tadhg Murtagh, Calum McGrath, Alex McCann, Robbie Kelly, Connor Kelly and Cian Ryan. In the senior events Brigid Fitzsimmons was 3rd overall and John Fitzsimmons was mid table in the men’s senior. Photos of the day are here.

Sept 25th 2011: County Cross-Country Even Ages Championships

True cross country weather (rain and wind) was the order of the day as the cross country championships kicked off in Crookstown. First up were the girls under 10 and although no medals were won there was fantastic performances all round as our team of 7 who were all running cross field for the first time. In the boys u/10 again our first timers ran very well and finished well up the field.

Our first medal of the day was won by Lara Curran in the girls U/12 when she finished a comfortable 2nd and led home our gallant team. In the boys U/12 Tadhg Murtagh was involved in a thrilling race for 3rd—5th which eventually saw Tadhg hold the challengers off to take bronze. A similar story for John Fitzsimmons in the boys U/14 as he also took the individual bronze and led home the team of Alex McCann, Matthew Doyle, Calum McGrath, Christopher Hamilton and Ben Corcoran  to the silver medal

Next up were our masters with Liz Foy and Brigid Fitzsimmons leading home a small field in 1st and 2nd respectively. In the men’s Johnny Fitzsimmons and Kevin Doyle finished in mid-field— results not known as we go to press.

July 8th  2011 :   Kildare Juvenile League—Final Results and Presentation

Congratulations to all our athletes on achieving a brilliant 2nd place in section B of the juvenile league, only marginally off 1st place. We had four great days racing and many thanks to all the parents who brought the kids along and to our dedicated coaching staff who organised the kids on each day and ensure they got to the line on time. We have organised a special night next Wednesday 13rd July in Aras Bríd at 7:30pm when all the children who took part will get presented with their medals. All parents, grannies, brothers, sisters etc. are very welcome. (There may even be a few nibbles).

Also just to remind everyone that our annual flag box collection will take place the weekend 22nd/23rd/24th July. This is our only fun-raising activity in the year and if you can lend a hand please let Michael or Sheelagh know next Wednesday. Because of the huge effort every year we manage to keep the membership fees very low and pay for all the entry fees etc. for the kids throughout the year. This year we cannot collect in the pubs so it will be tough to match previous years efforts.

July 3rd  2011 :   Kildare Juvenile League—Round 4

Another great turnout in Newbridge today meant that section B was “too close to call a winner”. Well done to our 5 individual winners, Ava Gleeson, Tadhg Murtagh, Lara Curran, Calum McGrath and John Fitzsimmons. Every point was hard earned by all competitors—well done to everyone.

We had a great turnout of well over 30 athletes who all ran and jumped brilliantly to earn valuable points for the team. May 8th  2011 : County Track and Field Championships  - Round 2

The team was Liz Foy, Sheelagh Morrissey, Sandra Fitzsimmons and Angeline Gleeson. Apr 18th 2011 : County Track and Field Championships

"The good wine they say is left to last" and so it was on Sunday  when in the last race of the evening, the Intermediate Men’s 4x2x2x8 Relay, the "masters" of Kildare A.C. (John Fitzsimmons, Kevin Doyle, Padraig Murtagh [just out of retirement] and William O'Neill) came home 3rd .. however the real achievement was beating one of the two u/17 boys team in the process. It was in fact a very good day for the "masters" with medals for Liz Foy, John Fitzsimmons, Mick Kenny, William O'Neill and Kevin Doyle. Elsewhere the juvenile stars of the day who won medals were Ava Gleeson, Lara Curran, Tadhg Murtagh, Callum McGrath, Matthew Doyle, John Fitzsimmons, Niall Kelly and Michael Kenny. There were many other near misses and some excellent performances from all our athletes many competing at county level for the first time. The experience they gained will surely stand to them in the second day of the championships on May 8th. Once again many thanks to the coaches and parents who kept the kids occupied and got them to the start-line on time.

The 2nd round of the juvenile league takes place in Celbridge on Saturday May 14th. We are currently 4th in section B but there is only a handful of points separating all the teams so a big turnout will ensure we move up the table.

Note: Training as normal over Easter so go easy on the eggs :)
