Dec 16th 2013: All-Ireland Cross Country

We had 2 competitors in Waterford at the weekend. Peter Hamilton was unlucky to miss out on a medal coming 14th in the Boys U/11 and Sarah Fitzsimons (girls u/13) was a scoring member of the Kildare County team which were outside the medals. In the even ages All Ireland in Santry in November John Fitzsimons was 19th  in the boys u/16

Dec 11th 2013: Christmas Break

End of another year. The last day of training for this year will be Thursday 12th Dec and we will resume on Tuesday January 7th. The committee and coaches would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. See you in January.

Nov 25th 2013: Annual Church Gate Collection

Just a reminder to all our members and supporters that our annual church gate collection takes place on December 7th/8th. This is our one major fund-raiser for the year and your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Nov 24th 2013: Club Championships

There was a fantastic turnout for the club championships this morning in St. Brigid’s Park.  Strong fields in each race ensured plenty of competition for the medals. Nov 15th 2013: Indoor Training Dates

There will be indoor training available for club members in Athlone IT on Sat Dec 14th 2013 and  Sun Jan 12th 2014. Cost is 5 per session for juveniles. The sessions last 90 minutes

Nov 11th 2013: Leinster Cross Country

Congratulations to all our athletes who took part in the recent Leinster Cross Country championships in Dunboyne and Adamstown. There were individual wins for John Fitzsimons (7th) in the boys u/16s and Peter Hamilton (6th) in the boys u/11. Liz Foy kept the masters flag flying finishing 12th overall and 5th in category. Oct 25th 2013: Club Championships

Our own club championships will take place in the park on Sunday November 24th at 10:30am. Events for all age groups and a big chance to put all that hard work in training to good effect. Enjoyable morning guaranteed.

Oct 14th 2013: County Cross Country—Day 2

The club hosted a very successful day 2 of the county cross country championships yesterday. Our thanks to Mr. Higgins for use of his land. Our athletes stood up to the challenge with many fantastic performances. First up were our U/9 girls who were very unlucky to miss a medal by one point and were only 6 points behind the gold medal winners. Our boys U/9 went one better and with the two Ben’s finishing 2nd and 3rd , the team winning a medal. In the boys U/9 Peter Hamilton retained his title from last year with a very impressive win. Elsewhere Sara Fitzsimons (U/13), Connor and Robbie Kelly (U/15) and Robert Hewson (U/17) all qualified for their respective county teams for the Leinster Championships. Oct 7th 2013: County Cross Country—Day 1

The even ages county cross country took place on Sunday in Suncroft. The boys U/16 team took the team gold with individual silver for John Fitzsimons. The boys u/10 won the team bronze. Sep 30th 2013: County Cross Country

The even ages county cross country championships are on this coming Sunday in Suncroft. The course is opposite Suncroft National School and kick-off is 12pm. Please be there in plenty of time for warm-up and bring dry change of clothes as the weather is expected to be very wet. Best of luck to everyone especially our newly formed ladies masters team.

Sep 12th 2013: Cross Country Dates

Kildare Athletic Club will host the second day (uneven ages) of the county cross country championships on 13th October. The course is opposite Kildare Town Soccer Club on the left hand side as you travel from Kildare to Milltown before you reach Cill Dara Golf Club. Location is here

Aug 28th 2013: Cross Country Dates

The dates are now decided for the county cross country championships. The even ages will take place on October 6th at Suncroft and the uneven ages a week later at  a venue yet to be decided. There is no date or venue for the senior championships yet.

Aug 19th 2013: Weekend Results

At the community games national finals, John Fitzsimmons continued his recent rich vein of form when he came 2nd in the Boys U/16 1500m. Keila Moore qualified for the final in the girls U/8 60m but narrowly missed out on a medal when finishing 5th.

At the final meeting of the National League both Mick and Michael Kenny were part of the Kildare County team that won the Division 1 title.

Aug 14th 2013: Update

The club presentation night will take place in Aras Bríd on Friday 23rd August at 7:30pm. All parents and children welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

There will be two weekend training sessions this autumn/winter. On Saturdays there will be training on the Curragh for those competing in cross country at ages u/12 and over. On Sundays there will be training as normal in the park for the younger athletes and those not competing in cross country.

Aug 9th 2013: Update

Training resumes next Tuesday night (13th) at 6pm in the park. Hope you enjoyed your holidays.

Two of our members, Keila Moore (U/8) and John Fitzsimons (U/16) will represent Kildare at the National finals of the community games next weekend in Athlone —good luck to both.

Aug 6th 2013: Celtic Games

John Fitzsimons competed for Ireland at the Celtic Games held over the weekend in Wales and came second by the smallest of margins in the 800m . Well done and we hope to see the Irish singlet worn many more times. Photo here.

July 15th 2013: County Juvenile League—Final Round

Congratulations to all our juvenile members on finishing second in section B of the County League. The last round held brilliant weather in Naas on Saturday was too close to call until all the points were added up and in the end just 14 points separated us from the winners Celbridge. Individual age awards were won by Liam Kelly (U/8), Ben Curran (U/9), Cathal Thompson (U/10), Peter Hamilton (U/11) and Lara Curran (U/14). Final results here.

July 8th 2013: All-Ireland Juvenile Track and Field

After the success of our U/10s relay team last weekend, John Fitzsimons took up the mantel this weekend and won gold in the boys U/16 800m in Tullamore added to a top 8 finish in the long jump. At the recent U/23 All-Ireland championships Michael Kenny won silver in the Shot Putt and 35lb distance.

Next up is the final round of the juvenile league next Saturday in Naas.

July 1st 2013: Recent Results

Our boys U/10 relay team made the best of the long journey to Donegal at the weekend when they returned with the bronze medal from the All--Ireland juvenile relays—well done to Cathal, Fayo, Aiden and Ben. Earlier in the month John Fitzsimmons came 2nd in the U/16 800m and 3rd in the long jump at the Leinster Championships. Other competitors on the day were Aaron Jacob, Lara Curran and Eoin O’Connor.

In the community games club members Keila Moore (Gold) and John Fitzsimons (Silver) won medals representing Kildare Town. Keila will now compete at the national finals in Athlone in August.

June 6th 2013: Leinster Senior/Masters/Junior Championships

We have a number of competitors in Tullamore last Sunday. In the U23 juniors, Michael Kenny had it all to himself winning gold in discus, shot putt and WOF. Mick Kenny took silver in the WOF Masters O55 event and Johnny Fitzsimmons won bronze in the 400m and 800m in the Masters O50 category.

May 26th 2013: Community Games—National Finals

Well done to our four competitors in Athlone over the weekend. Eoin O’Connor and Tadhg Murtagh were part of the Kildare team that won gold in the U/14 Cross Country relay, Lara Curran picked up a silver with the girls U/14 team while Peter Hamilton led off the boys u/12 team but they unfortunately did not qualify for the final.

May 19th 2013: Leinster Relays and County B Track and Field Championships

Congratulations to Fayo, Ben, Aiden and Cathal who became Leinster Champions in the U/10 Relay today in Greystones. Yesterday the B Championships were held in Crookstown and we had medal winners in Cathal Thompson, Cameron Hughes, Eoin O’Connor, Tadhg Murtagh, Eadaoin Murtagh, Saoirse Murtagh, Keila Moore and Aoife Thompson. May 12th 2013: County Juvenile Track and Field Championships

The 2nd round of the juvenile county track and field championships were held in Crookstown today and once again our juveniles did the club proud winning medals of all colours. Full results and pictures will be available shortly but special mention to our U/10 boys relay team who out-classed the field winning by distance—well done to Fayo, Aiden, Cathal and Ben and good luck in the Leinsters. Next up is the County “B” championships next Saturday in Crookstown  at 1pm (check with your coach if you can compete) and the 3rd round of the Juvenile League on Tuesday 11th June in Celbridge at 7pm.

May 7th 2013: County Juvenile Track and Field Championships

The juvenile county track and field championships kicked off in Celbridge in sunny conditions on Sunday last. We had a great turnout and plenty of excellent performances. Full results will be available shortly but congrats to those who got medals including Peter Hamilton, T.J. Walsh, Tadhg and Eadaoin Murtagh, Lara Curran, John Fitzsimmons, Arron Jacob, Conor Kelly, Fayo Adeogun, Ben Curran and Aidan Kelly. Photo’s of the day are here. Apr 29th 2013: County Senior Track and Field Championships

The first day of the county track and field championships took place yesterday in Naas for Senior, Intermediate and Masters athletes. Liz Foy won the senior double, 1500m and 3000m. In the masters men John Fitzsimons won gold in the O/50 100m, 400m and 1500m and Declan Seward was 2nd in the O/40s 1500m.

Apr 7th 2013: County Juvenile League

We had a great turn out for the first round of the county league in Celbridge on Sunday. We are in section B with Celbridge, Eire-Og and Robertstown. The league is the first competition for most of our newcomers and younger athletes and they all performed heroically winning valuable points for the club. There were many outstanding individual performances on the day but special mention goes to our boys u/10 who complete a 1,2,3 in both their sprint events—can’t wait for the county relay events !!. Some photos of the day are here. Next up is the Crookstown open sports next Sunday and the second round of the league on April 21st (again in Crookstown).

Mar 19th 2013: Community Games Cross Country

The Community Games Cross Country was held on Saturday afternoon at the McDonagh pitches on the Curragh on Saturday. The Club had competitors representing Milltown and Kildare  Town. Peter Hamilton came 3rd in the boys u/12, Eoin O’Connor and Tadhg Murtagh came 3rd and 5th respectively in the boys U/14 and all three will represent the county teams in Athlone at the national finals in May. In the girls competition Lara Curran came 6th in the girls u/14 and will head to Athlone, while Brigid Barry (girls U/12) and Mary Hamilton (girls U.14) just missed out on the medals.

Mar 14th 2013: Leinster Juvenile Indoors

We had seven competitors in Athlone at the weekend for the Leinster Indoors. John Fitzsimmons took top honours with silver medals in the boys u/16 200m and 800m, combined with a 4th place finish in the long jump.  In the U/14 boys Tadhg Murtagh and Aaron Jacob finished 7th and 8th in the long jump. In the high jump Tadhg produced a PB to finish joint 4th. In the 800m Eoin O’Connor and Tadhg failed to qualify for the final is a very competitive event and Aaron narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final of the 60m. In the girls events Lara Curran finished 8th in the long jump and herself and Mary Hamilton did very well in their first high jump event at this level. In the 60m Lara qualified for the semi-finals and Mary was unlucky not to make it through despite coming second in her heat. Our youngest competitor, Sarah Fitzsimmons competed very well in the long jump and shot putt.

Feb 26th 2013: Club Championships

The club championships took place on Sunday last in St. Brigid’s park. Well done to everyone who took part and special congratulations to all our new club champions,  Keilon Moore, Éadaoin Murtagh, Sarah Fitzsimmons, Lara Curran, Ben Curran, Peter Hamilton, Daniel Cunningham, Conor Kelly and John Fitzsimmons. Feb 20th 2013: Club Championships

The club championships for all underage groups U/8 - U/16 will take place this Sunday Feb 24th in St. Brigid’s Park at 10:30am. All athletes to be there for 10:15am . Best of luck to all.

Feb 20th 2013: All-Ireland U23 Indoors

Congratulations  to Michael Kenny who won the silver medal in the weight-for-distance at the All-Ireland indoor under-23 championships in Athlone.

Feb 4th 2013: Latest Results

Congratulations to Tadhg Murtagh on finishing 5th in the All-Ireland B Cross Country Championships U/13 held in Derry on Sunday. He also finished 7th at the recent indoor combined events in new indoor arena in Athlone.

In the Leinster indoor masters John Fitzsimmons finished 3rd in the M50 800m and 4th in the 1500m. Mick Kenny picked up a silver in the M55 Shot and gold in the WOF.

In the seniors Michael Kenny won gold in the WOF and came 7th in the Shot.

Jan 8th 2013: Happy New Year

Training resumes tonight for all at 6pm in St. Brigid’s Park —- welcome back everybody. Up and coming events—Jan 13th: Leinster Senior and Junior Cross Country, Jan 26th: Indoor combined events, Feb 2nd: Leinster Masters/Seniors/Juniors and Juvenile Relays Indoors, Feb 3rd: All-Ireland  “B” and Masters/Intermediate Cross Country.
