Garda Station going back to school

28 August 2003: It looks as though Gardaí in Rathangan will be going back to school later this month when a new Gárda Station costing E420,000 will be open in what was previously an old school house. However, the question on some resident’s minds in Rathangan is whether or not the Gardaí will be 'attending class' on a regular basis.

KCC turns down Sherwood application

27 August 2003: Kildare County Council has refused planning permission to Sherwood Homes Ltd for 238 dwellings at Newtown, Maynooth, at a site directly behind Castledawson and Parsons Hall housing estates.

Councillors 'vindicated' by ABP decision

25 August 2003: Councillors who voted against an application by IMC (Naas) Ltd to allow a material contravention of the town’s development plan to accommodate a 9-screen cinema complex in Millennium Park said today they have been vindicated by a decision of An Bord Pleanala to refuse an appeal by the applicants against that decision.

25 August 2003: The National College of Ireland will hold an Open Evening for prospective students from Kildare in the Keadeen Hotel from 6-8pm tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. Lecturers and representatives from the college will be on hand to talk to potential students about the courses on offer from their regional centre in Newbridge.

Kilcock hosts International Canoe Polo

18 August 2003: Kilcock was the colourful canalside setting for the 5th European Canoe Polo Championships from 13-17 August, the first major canoeing event in this country for many years. It really put the north Kildare town firmly on the map in this growing international sport.

17 August 2003: There was a large turnout of vehicles for today's rally of vintage cars, tractors and other vehicles which took place in the Kilcullen area in aid of cancer treatment.

Residents' concern at sewerage spill

15 August 2003: A sewerage overspill outside the gates of Naas Hospital this week was described as a 'major health hazard' by local residents, who have been critical of both the local authority reaction and of hospital management for failure to take adequate action afterwards on the hospital grounds.

E216m grant for water improvement

13 August 2003: County Kildare is to receive grant-aid to the tune of E216.5 million to help improve and develop its water supply and sewerage scheme network.

11 August 2003: A decision by An Bord Pleanala to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of the former Kavanagh`s Mill site in Maynooth will regenerate the former Mill site which had been an eyesore in the Town Centre for many years and which had been derelict since the closure of Kavanagh`s Mills in 1998.

Council to meet with private bus operator
