Bus owner to meet Naas Town Council tonight

16 September 2003: Mr JJ Kavanagh of Kavanagh’s Buses is to give a presentation to members of Naas Town Council in the Council Chamber this evening at 7.30pm to explain why he ended the local Naas Town Bus Service. The end of the service at the start of the summer has left many, especially the elderly, housebound.

Naas Town Hall to have wheelchair ramp

16 September 2003: Naas Town Hall is to be made wheelchair accessible within the next few months. Councillors are anxious to start the work as soon as possible and have been shown preliminary drawings of the proposed new wheelchair ramp at the front of the building.

Call for Council aid for 'emergency' projects

16 September 2003: Naas Town Council should be able to fund some ‘emergency’ projects that may arise from time to time out of its Community Grants system. Cllr Seamie Moore has asked councillors to enlarge their community grants system to include a school application for an extension.

10 September 2003: The announcement of 315 redundancies at the Schneider Electrical manufacturing plant in Celbridge has been described as 'a disastrous development for the people of North Kildare' by local deputy Emmet Stagg.

Naas CBS Secondary School closed til Monday

04 September 2003: UPDATE - All pupils have been sent home from Naas CBS Secondary School since lunch time today due to the mystery illness that has hospitalised a number of students, according to school principal Noel Merrick. Another 15-20 boys became ill during class this morning. The school has officially closed until next Monday morning.

04 September 2003: UPDATE - All Leaving Certificate students at the 800-pupil NAAS CBS were sent home this morning until next Monday, following the outbreak of an illness which still hasn't been fully identified.

Illness hospitalises Naas students

04 September 2003: Tests on a schoolboy admitted to Naas General Hospital on Tuesday night show he is NOT suffering from bacterial meningitis. However, 12 students from Naas CBS Secondary School, mostly Leaving Certificate, were admitted to Naas General Hospital last night with flu-like systems including a high temperature.
