National Age Card scheme for Naas pubs

NAAS, 23 August: by Trish Whelan. Only official age cards will be accepted as proof of age in licenced premises and gardai in Naas are to undertake an awareness campaign to ensure that all young people are familiar with the scheme.

This will involve posters being put up in pubs and hotels in the town.

The move is part of a nationwide scheme to make people more aware of the existence of the National Age Card scheme.

Applicants can call to the garda station with two recent photographs of themselves as well as two forms of ID. These can include a birth cert, passport, and provisional drivers licence. A £5 fee is also required.

All applications will be processed in Dublin and the age card posted out to each applicant.

Sgt Tom Harte of Naas Garda Station says the National Age Card is the only acceptable form of ID in pubs under the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2000.
