1.3 million euros needed

CELBRIDGE, 27 March 2002: by Brian Byrne. Funding of 1.3 million euros will be sought by Kildare County Council and the Department of Education for an access road to the North Kildare National School Project at Ballymakealy in Celbridge and for safety measures to be carried out at the entrance to St Woolstans Secondary School on the Clane Road.

Plans have been drawn up for both projects, and the road construction will take around 11 months, according to Des O'Connor, senior executive engineer with Kildare County Council. Work on the actual school building begins 8 April.

The St Woolstan's works will commence as soon as possible after the clusure of the school for the summer holidays, with a view to having them 'substantially completed' by the end of August 2002.

The new road will incorporate footpaths, cycle tracks, bus bays and a roundabout.
