Civil defence demo at St Mary's

KILDARE GENERAL 01 April 2003: Members of Kildare Civil Defence, First Officer Moira Gavan, Sylvia Tyrrell, First Officer Jim Byrne, Bertie Keirnan, Dick Reade, Vincent Miller, Craig Monroe and First Officer Patricia McNeela (with mascot) who gave a demonstration of some of the work they do at yesterday’s March meeting of Kildare County Council.

Most of their work involves search, rescue and recovery. Their last major involvement was in providing back up assistance and evacuating people caught up in major flooding in the Maynooth/Leixlip area in November 2002. They are also called upon to search rivers for missing persons.

Mayor Jim Reilly paid tribute to the work of the Civil Defence after their demonstration.
