More traffic measures down the road

CLANE 03 April 2003: Clane is to get more traffic-calming road 'cushions', and a count is to be made of pedestrian use of crossings with a view to providing pedestrian lights at both Manzors and Murphys pubs.

This follows discussion of a motion tabled by Deputy Emmet Stagg in relation to improving pedestrian safety in Clane village, at the Clane Area Committee meeting held on 24 March.

A request for the provision of large raised speed cushions at the junctions of Main Street/BallinagappaghRoadlKilcock Road and Dublin Road and Main Street/MillicentRoad and Prosperous Road have been added to the list of traffic calming requests for consideration in 2004.

The request for the examination of the provision of pedestrian controlled traffic lights at Manzor's and Murphy's will be undertaken by the carrying out of pedestrian counts at both locations over the coming weeks.

Finally in relation to the provision of proper road markings along Main Street, this will be implemented as soon as resurfacing is carried out on Main Street. This is expected to occur after the opening of the Clane By Pass.

Deputy Stagg indicated that he was unhappy that the request for the speed cushions could not be considered until 2004 but welcomed the decision to proceed with pedestrian counts and the resurfacing and road markings along Main Street.
