Growing concern for Fair Green

NAAS 30 March 2003: There's growing concern about the work that Naas Town Council is carrying out at Fair Green to build extra car park spaces. The work is near the old Fire Station, and stones which delineated the edges of the green area have been moved to provide for the work.

A member of Naas Local History Group, who preferred not to be named at this stage, said the work is 'encroaching on a very significant monument'.

Cllr Mary Glennon has commented in a characteristically direct way. "I think it is a disgrace," she told KNN. "I think the council should look for planning permission before they do anything like this, to allow people to object if they want to. Too much is happening in this town without any consultation with the councillors."

The Fair Green was the centre of much local controversy a couple of years ago when it was first proposed that it be turned into a car park.

The matter is to be raised at the Town Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday night.
