Opposition propose job-killing taxes - Kelly (May 1)

Paul Kelly, Fianna Fail candidate for Kildare North has today said that Fianna Fail policies are putting Ireland at the top of the league in Europe in the high tech sector. The IT sector in Ireland accounts for 22% of Irish exports.

“ Ireland is only one of two countries in Europe to have all schools connected to the Internet. By the year 2005, all public services which are capable of electronic delivery will be available online.
Within three years, Fianna Fail will provide cheap and open access to broadband infrastructure throughout the State, ensuring high speed internet services to all.

“I strongly believe that the high tech sector in Ireland is threatened by job killing taxes proposed by the opposition parties.  The Labour party wants to increase employers PRSI and raise Capital Gains Tax, while the Greens want to increase Corporation Taxes. These specific tax proposals are job killing tax measures. If these tax proposals were introduced in Government, it would act as a serious disincentive to existing and future investors, particularly in the high tech sector who would like to set up here in Ireland.  Intel and Hewlett Packard for example are major employers in north Kildare, and Intel has recently confirmed a massive new investment here.  These policies would have a huge negative impact on their competitiveness.”

Fianna Fail is committed to introducing pro-jobs tax policies. Labour and the Greens are committed to high business and corporation taxes, which is bad news for Irish business.

Ends 1st May 2002.
