Cllr. Paul Kelly praised the new cooperative approach of a number of county councils, which has resulted in Kildare getting a new fire appliance. Kildare has joined with Wicklow, Offaly and Westmeath county councils to seek tenders for five new appliances, one each for Kildare, Offaly and Westmeath, and two for Wicklow. This is a new approach by the fire authorities, and allows for a more streamlined and efficient purchasing system said Paul.
The money will come from the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Noel Dempsey. Grants of over ¤1,327,00 will be given to the councils. This represents a tangible sign that Kildare is determined to develop and improve its fire and emergency service. New, modern appliances, properly equipped, are essential to give people the security of knowing that Kildares Fire Service is being equipped to provide a first class emergency service. The people who work in the fire service are highly trained and very professional. I will continue to seek further improvements in our fire and emergency services, promised cllr. Kelly.
