Parks money to cut grass

MAYNOOTH & KILCOCK, 9 May 2002: by Bill Trapman. Money from Kildare County Council's parks budget is to be used to cut grass in pen spaces in Leixlip and Maynooth. The areas involved are those where it is not feasible for residents associations to cut, including the Leixlip linear park, the Black Avenue and the approach roads to the town.

Local councillors, who had allocated money for this type of work last year and this year, have been making strong representations to make sure the money was not diverted to other uses.

"We fought a long hard battle to get this money, and it’s bad enough that it couldn’t all be spent last year," says Cllr Paul Kelly. "I don’t want the same thing to happen this year – already the grass is very high in some areas. There are also trees in Cluain Aoibhinn to be replaced, and some of the money is to be spent on that as well.”

Cllr John McGinley (left) has also pressed for the money to be used in Maynooth.
