North Kildare And South Meath Alliance Against Incineration Ltd.

Decision Made by Kildare County Council

The North Kildare South Meath Alliance Against Incineration Ltd. were delighted to be advised of the decision by Kildare County Council to reject the proposal for a Hazardous Waste Incinerator in Kilcock on numerous grounds.

The Alliance thank Kildare County Council for reflecting the wishes of the people, over 6000 individual objections having been lodged to date.

There is no room for complacency however, as the promoters of the proposal, Thermal Waste Management (Ireland) Ltd. will lodge an appeal with An Bord Pleanala within the next 30 days. The campaign against the incinerator will continue therefore with the same degree of vigour and determination.

The Alliance will hold a public rally on the site of the proposed development at 11am on Saturday 24 July. During the rally it is planned to have a large release of (biodegradable) balloons to symbolise the dispersal of toxic emissions that would be released from the incinerator. This rally will replace the previously reported protest of the same date.

The grounds of Kildare County Council's refusal to grant planning permission can be viewed shortly on The Alliance's website www.kilcockincinerator.com. This site also gives the full background on the proposal for a Hazardous Waste Incinerator in Kilcock, historical information on the campaign against the incinerator and ongoing details regarding current events. The site also has a petition which The Alliance urge all people opposed to the incinerator to sign. There is also an e-mail for those interested in contacting The Alliance.
