KILCULLEN, 9 April 2002: by Brian Byrne. Residents of Silliot Hill, Walterstown and Two-Mile-House have formed an action group to oppose an application for a recycling facility/transfer station by Oxigen Environmental Ltd.
The proposed site (above) is not far from the running-down controversial county dump, and the local residents say theyve had enough over the years from that facility. Theres also another private waste facility run by KTK Ltd nearby.
The Kilcullen/Two-Mile-House Environmental Action group is currently preparing an objection to the application, to be lodged along with other individual objections from local residents. They have retained planning and environmental consultants to assist them.
We believe that this facility, if allowed to proceed, will further affect our environment, a spokesperson said this week. For the future of our community we must continue to object to such a facility entering our locality.
The proposed site is on agricultural land owned by Oxigen, who operate the waste collection service for Naas. Local residents complained to Kildare County Council during the last two years because of the storage of waste bins and trucks on the site following the departure of the contractor from another depot at Pipers Hill.
