Town Improvement Plan launched

16 May 2003: The Leixlip Town Improvement Plan has been launched by TV personality and architect Duncan Stewart. It is the second plan produced by Leixlip Town Council since 1995.

The plan is available in hard copy, on CD-ROM and on the Council's website at www.leixliptowncouncil.ie

It includes recommendations that could improve buildings and the town generally, though nobody is compelled to carry out the suggestions when renovating their property.

Cllr Paul Kelly called at the weekend for people 'to have a look at it', and to try to incorporate it’s recommendations as far as possible. “ We have shown that Leixlip Town Council can deliver on a plan like this," he said. "Our first plan was launched in 1995, and most of it has been implemented. Some projects were overtaken by events, and a few were beyond our budget, but for the most part, we did what we planned to do. I’m confident that we can do even better this time round.”

There are incentives to encourage people to improve their premises, including a town council grant scheme for painting buildings, and Kildare County Council offers grants for improvements to shop fronts as well.

"The main incentive though is the sense of pride we can feel if our town, and our individual buildings are looking their best. We will improve our score in the Tidy Towns competition, and in the case of businesses, present a more attractive face to customers and staff. We can also help to create a real sense of “place” – and make Leixlip the best town in which to live, work or visit."
