St Catherine's pitches ready in August

LEIXLIP, 2 February 2002: by Bill Trapman. Football pitches at St Catherine’s Park in Leixlip will be ready for playing on from next August, according to Dr Christy Boylan (right) of South Dublin Council’s Parks Department. He told a recent meeting of Leixlip Area councillors that the pitches will be let on an annual basis and Kildare County Council will cut the grass.

In the meantime, some 70 new trees in the park have been vandalised and will have to be replaced over the next two months. Wall and railings will be erected around the park at Easter and the existing rocks will be replaced with timber bollards, as requested by residents.

The design of the pavilion, which will be located at the Avenue, is at an early stage and the various clubs will be consulted on their requirements.

Dr Boylan express annoyance at the use of the hedge around the park as a dump and he asked the council to use the litter warden to take steps to prevent this unsocial behaviour.
