KCC turns down Sherwood application

27 August 2003: Kildare County Council has refused planning permission to Sherwood Homes Ltd for 238 dwellings at Newtown, Maynooth, at a site directly behind Castledawson and Parsons Hall housing estates.

The Council gave 4 reasons for their rejection: that the application was premature pending the adoption of an Action Area Plan; that it was of poor standard of design; that it was premature pending the completion of Bond Bridge and the Meadowbrook Link Road; and that the water supply in the area is inadequate.

Welcoming the refusal, local councillor John McGinley nevertheless expressed his 'amazement' that the Council had made no mention of the fact that the Maynooth Development Plan specifically prohibits the granting of planning permission at this location until flood relief works are carried out on the Meadowbrook and Lyreen rivers.

He said this should have been the Number 1 reason for rejection.
