ABP turns down cinema appeal

25 August 2003: An Bord Pleanala has turned down an appeal by a Naas developer against a Naas Town Council decision to refuse permission for a cinema complex in Millennium Park

The planning board took the view that objections against the complex on the grounds that it was remote from Naas town and in an area zoned for industrial/wholesale use were ‘reasonable’.

It said the proposed development would ‘undermine the urban focus and vitality of the town centre’ and would therefore be contrary to the proper planning and development of the area.

The original application for a material contravention of the current town plan failed to get a required majority at a meeting earlier this year during which there were extraordinary scenes.
