Minister to turn final phase Naas Hospital sod

NAAS, 11 September 2002: by Trish Whelan. Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy TD will turn the sod for the final phase of Naas Hospital tomorrow, Thursday September 12.

The hospital is currently undergoing a multi-million euro development programme (over E100m) on the site of the existing hospital with funding being provided by the National Development Plan.

The ICU and theatres are being handed over to the hospital before the end of this month and it is expected they will be operational in April 2003. The Accident & Emergency and outpatients departments of this Phase are expected to be on stream during summer 2003.

This final development includes the provision of two standard wards (62 beds), a department of physical medicine, hospital sterile services department, day surgery unit, a mortuary/post mortem facility, catering and maintenance departments On completion, the total bed capacity will be increased from 138 to 279.

Naas Hospital provides general medical surgical services and acute psychiatric services to its immediate catchment areas of Kildare/West Wicklow.
