Kate Walsh to decide this week on PD offer

CELBRIDGE, 29 January 2002: by Brian Byrne. Celbridge-based county councillor Kate Walsh is to make up her mind whether to run as a PD candidate in the coming General Election after a meeting with party leader Mary Harney TD this coming Wednesday.

Independent representative Walsh was first approached by the PD leader last October, and after mature consideration she says the party’s policies ‘attract me very much’. Full Story.

Kildare Failte at Holidays Fair

Art History lectures

NAAS, 28 January 2002: by Bill Trapman. A series of three Art History lectures will take place in Naas Community Library, beginning Thursday 31 January with one entitled ‘Exploring Ireland’s Gold-Bronze Age Artifacts'. The lectures will be from 8-10pm, and all are welcome. They will be of particular interest to all Junior and Leaving Cert art students or to anyone with an interest in, or taking courses in, Art History.

Naas to look for light rail system

NAAS, 25 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. A plan which would open up vast tracts of land to the east of Naas with a light rail link from Sallins to the Curragh has been put forward by Naas Town councillor Seamie Moore.

He said the plan would link Sallins station with Johnstown, Begger’s End, Punchestown, Two Mile House, Kilcullen, Athgarvan and back to the mainline rail at the Curragh Race course. Full Story.

Flooding solution comes closer

ARDCLOUGH, 24 January 2002: by Brian Byrne. Flooding in Karneystown and Ardclough will soon be resolved, following action by Kildare County Council. The council has contracted a company to complete some preliminary work, on the foot of an AURP report that looked at the flooding from Dangan Corner to the Weir on the Liffey. Full Story.

Councils to move to Millennium Park

Poorest tenants 'overcharged' - councillor

New tracking system for representation

Bond Bridge project further delayed

MAYNOOTH 12 January 2002: by Brian Byrne. Waterways Ireland has once more put a halt to the Bond Bridge project, Leixlip Area councillors were told this week. It seems they will now not grant Kildare County Council the necessary Wayleave or Bridge Agreements to allow construction to begin, unless the Council agrees to re-erect the dismantled bridge at a new location at Maynooth Railway Station, replacing the existing footbridge across the canal. Sponsoring a child changed Sinead's life

CARAGH, 9 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. Sponsoring a little orphan boy in Zambia has given 23-year-old Caragh woman Sinead Burke a whole new outlook on life.

Little Leonard (3) was the catalyst that prompted Sinead to become more involved in helping people as a care worker in the Cheshire Homes unit in the Phoenix Park in Dublin.

She’s been out to visit him already in the Kaoma orphanage and is fundraising for another trip out in June. Full Story.

Explanatory leaflet for parking

NAAS, 8 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. Naas Town Council is to distribute leaflets to every house in the town explaining the new parking Bye-Laws which come into force in early February 2002.

Resolutions not implemented

NAAS, 5 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. Around 100 resolutions passed by Naas UDC in recent years have not yet been implemented, according to Cllr Pat McCarthy who has asked for money to be made available in each year's Book of Estimates to ensure the jobs are done.

UDC officials said where motions are passed, ‘every effort should be made to include them in the next year’s estimates’. Full Story.

School contract is awarded

Shoppers flock to designer outlet village

Shoppers, many from Co Kildare, were flocking over the Christmas and new year period to Brand Central in Rathdowney, Co Laois, chasing bargains in clothing and luggage among other items in Ireland's first Tourist Outlet Village. It is the kind of project which could have been set up in Goffs at Kill in 1999. Full Story.

Few submissions over town's parking regs

NAAS, 3 January 2002: by Trish Whelan. Only 11 people took the trouble to make submissions to Naas UDC concerning its plans to introduce Parking Bye-Laws in the town. The submissions were from business people, Residents Associations and individuals. Full Story.

Preserved structures dropped from plan

LEIXLIP, 3 January 2002: by Bill Trapman. The proposed Leixlip Town area plan 2001 which has been approved by the Leixlip Area councillors has dropped 35 houses or structures from its list of items for preservation. These include Fenian leader William Francis Roantree's family home on the Main Street and the whole block of houses from the bank at AIB to Bernard Owen's shop. Full Story.

Naas UDC objects to dump capacity increase

Naas UDC has lodged an objection with the Environmental Protection Agency against an application by KTK Landfill Ltd, Kilcullen, for permission to increase the maximum annual tonnage that may be dumped in their Kilcullen site from 220,000 tonnes to 275,000 tonnes.
