Kildare penalty points up 32%

30 May 2003: Nearly 1,000 Kildare drivers have been issued with speeding penalty points since the system was introduced last winter.

Kildare now has 959 drivers who have incurred 2 penalty points and 20 drivers with four points, a total of 979 drivers, up 32 per cent on the figure published at the end of April.

Hibernian Insurance has promised that it will cut premiums by 10 per cent from the autumn for drivers who do not incur any points.

"I am sure the other major insurance companies will soon follow suit so not only can you save lives, you can also save yourself money by slowing down," Senator John Dardis said today in a comment on the figures.
