School project gets planning permission

NAAS, 13 August: by Trish Whelan. Work is expected to begin soon on the long awaited new primary school for Naas to be located on the Sallins Road.

The Board of Management Naas National Schools, c/o Naas PP Fr Moling Lennon, has been granted planning permission by Naas UDC for the new school on part of the lands at Oldtown Demesne.

The building will be part two-storey and consist of 20 classrooms, a special needs unit, general purpose room and ancillary accommodation. On site works will include car parking and a pupil set-down area including bus a turning facility. Access to the school will be from the Sallins Road.

A site for the new school was a key component in the rezoning of the Oldtown Estate in the 1999 Naas Town Development Plan. The site was made available by Lehmex International and was handed over to parish priest Fr Moling Lennon by Lehmex principal Gerry Conlan.

The school was to have been ready in September 2000.
