Bord na Mona plans North Kildare superdump

TIMAHOE 01 March 2003: Bord na Mona is preparing a proposal to use 600 acres of its property at Drehid, Near Timahoe, for a landfill.

The company has organised an Open Day for today (Saturday) at St Conleth's National School in Timahoe, as part of a consultation process with local people.

The area has already been selected by Kildare County Council as the location for the next county landfill, replacing Silliott Hill near Kilcullen.

Bord na Mona will apply for a licence to operate the landfill when consultants working with the company have completed their site investigations and other tests.

The North West Kildare Environmental Protection Group is to continue its campaign against the project, and say there are alternatives to landfill in the area.
