Commuter rail capacity to increase

16 July 2003: The capacity of trains on the Maynooth commuter service will increase by about 26 per cent by the end of the year, according to the minister for transport, Seamus Brennan TD.

In a reply to a Dail Question from Emmet Stagg TD, the minister said this would represent a doubling of capacity over the 2001 figure.

Mr Brennan said Iarnrod Eireann has already begun putting into service the first of the 76 new diesel railcars scheduled for operation within the Greater Dublin Area.

"All the railcars are expected to be in service by the end of the year," he said.
