Water Conversation survey

02 May 2003: Kildare County Council is to receive E1.3 million in funding to carry out a Water Conservation Study.

The Council is one of 17 local authorities in the country to receive such funding, which will be used to fund a study to map out the county’s water supply network, and establish the level and sources of unaccounted for water.

The Council will also use the funds to undertake pilot water conservation and leakage reduction projects and identify measures to be incorporated into longer-term strategies.

The funding has been welcomed by Senator Dardis, who says it is part of a range of measures designed to conserve the county’s water supply. “Water is a scare natural resource and must be treated accordingly," he says. "We cannot continue to use it inefficiently and blindly hope that it won’t run dry."
