E216m grant for water improvement

13 August 2003: County Kildare is to receive grant-aid to the tune of E216.5 million to help improve and develop its water supply and sewerage scheme network.

The investment is part of a E5.4 billion Water Services Investment Programme 2003-2005 which covers 737 water and sewerage schemes across the 26 counties.

The total development programme in Kildare is E216,520,400 and is funded by the National Development Plan. Of that, E183,220 400 is to cover the cost of the existing programme, while E32 million has been earmarked for new schemes approved to enter the planning stage - E20 million for Kildare Town Sewerage and E12 million for Kildare Water Strategy Phase 2 Castlewarden to Ballygoran. An additional E1.3 million is for water conservation projects.

“This is a long-term investment programme which, when completed, will give residents throughout Kildare a top-class water and sewerage system,” says Senator John Dardis, welcoming the news.
