Waste application turned down

MAYNOOTH, 6 September 2002: by Bill Trapman. Kildare County Council has refused Planning Permission for Westside Waste's application for an increase in their waste operation at Leixlip Road, Maynooth. The move has been welcomed by the local branch of the Labour Party.

"If permitted this would have had a serious impact on the residents living directly behind it at Parklands," Cllr John McGinley said in reaction. "I'm pleased that the No 1 reason for the refusal was because of the Clause that I had inserted in Page 31 of the Maynooth Development Plan: 'In particular uses such as intensive waste processing and recycling which are deemed to be incompatible with the neighbouring residential areas will be prohibited and any existing incompatible uses will be encouraged to relocate'. Hopefully, this refusal will encourage Westside Waste to relocate their existing operation to a non-urban area."

Cllr McGinley congratulated the Residents' Association in Parklands and the many individual residents who put so much effort into ensuring the refusal of this Planning Application.
