Tom Wall was born in Dublin in 1943. Having finished school at fourteen, he worked in a factory before attending night school and qualifying as an industrial engineer. He then became an official of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions from which he retired as Assistant General Secretary. Post-retirement, he undertook studies for a Master’s Degree, obtaining first class honours for a thesis titled Understanding Irish Social Partnership: An Assessment of Competitive Corporatist and Post-Corporatist Perspectives. He was a member of the board of the Railway Procurement Agency from its inception, serving as Chairman during 2013-14. Tom is a regular contributor of history essays and history-related reviews to the Dublin Review of Books. He has also written for The Irish Times and the Independent, and has been a guest on The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk.
