40 11 February. The Maynooth 1916 Centenary Committee held a table quiz at Brady’s Clockhouse, Maynooth, as a fundraiser for its 1916 centenary celebrations. A portrait of James Connolly, painted and donated by Billy McAndrew, was on display at the event and was auctioned after the ceremony on Easter Sunday. An eight-week course ‘Women of 1916’ was run by Network Kildare in conjunction with Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board in the Further Education and Training Centre, Naas. Edenderry History Group hosted the presentation ‘Foremost and ready, Kildare and the 1916 Rising,’ by James Durney, as part of its 1916 Seminar, Oaklands Community College, Edenderry, Co. Offaly. 20 February. A plaque commemorating Edward Bridgeman, a member of C Company, 1st Battalion, Dublin Brigade, Irish Volunteers, was unveiled outside Lynch’s shop, Celbridge. Frank O’Rourke, and Historian in Residence, James Durney to commemorate a dinner held for Kildare 1916 veterans in April 1949. 23 February. ‘Remembrance and Rebellion 2016 Project,’ an exhibition and celebration, took place at Solas Bhríde as part of Aontas Adult Learners’ Festival, organised by the Community Education Service in Kildare town. The Nationalist and Leinster Times newspaper began a series of ten articles on Co. Kildare personalities involved in the 1916 Rising.
