NEWS RELEASE - 20 March, 2002

LEADING WEBSITE RELAUNCHED

Kildare Community Network has re-launched the www.kildare.ie website, at the Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge this evening.

kildare.ie is a comprehensive online information resource facility, and is Ireland's leading county website. It carries information on almost every aspect of life in Kildare, and has six key subportals dealing with arts, business, community, education, heritage and tourism. Each subportal has listings of businesses and organisations in County Kildare with regular features including news and events in each area.

The site is host to over eighty other sites with a huge compendium of interesting and useful information about County Kildare, its people, history, business life, development, community organisations, sporting clubs, recreational facilities, tourist attractions and artistic life. The site also provides internet-based information about the services provided by Kildare County Council.

kildare.ie was developed by the Kildare Community Network, an independent company funded through site development sales and a partnership between Action South Kildare and Kildare County Council.

The site has been online since 1998, and in 2001 it attracted over 640,000 visitors who downloaded 2.3 million documents. Current access figures show over 2,100 visitors viewing almost 9,000 documents each day.

Speaking at the relaunch of the website, the Chairperson of Kildare Community Network, Councillor Catherine Murphy, said

"What is successful about the site is what it does. Kildare is perhaps one of the most diverse counties in the country both in terms of the geography of where people are located and the range of interests. The site is one of the mechanisms that allows us to connect to each other and to experience that common place that is Kildare . This is one of the most successful sites in the Country. It is a great source of pride that others look to Kildare for how to develop their sites and see Kildare as the ideal."

Business, community and civic organisations are invited to use the site as a means of providing information and generating interest in their area. Enquiries should be made to the site manager, Kevin Kelly, who can be reached at:
Telephone: 045 873849 Fax: 045 873818
Email: info@kildare.ie Website: www.kildare.ie
or by post at Kildare Community Network, Saint Mary's, Naas, Co. Kildare.

The Kildare.ie site has gone from strength to strength from its establishment in 1998. It provides a widely accessible information and advertising resource which is helping to promote County Kildare nationally and internationally.
