SPEECH BY JOHN O'NEILL, CATHAOIRLEACH OF KILDARE COUNTY COUNCIL at the reLaunch of the www.kildare.ie website

A Chairde,

Kildare County Council is proud to be associated with the relaunch of the county website - kildare.ie

As a leading partner in the building of the site, Kildare County Council is at the forefront of community based technology through the provision of information and services to all Kildare's citizens.

In a new era of openness, accessibility and freedom of information, Kildare County Council has embraced new technologies to enhance its interaction with the general public.

Through our partnership with Action South Kildare we have fostered community development in the county and served the public well. We hope to continue to do this by increasing participation and access to information and services.

Many organizations and groups have already benefited from having websites on the network. It is a resource that Kildare County Council is pleased to be linked to.

I would like to acknowledge the work of the Kildare Community Network staff who have developed this resource.

Those who have made the effort of attending tonights launch can see the potential of this new Information and Communications tool for the County. There is now an opportunity to be involved in its development.

I would encourage you to get involved in the site and to contribute to its expansion over the next number of years.

Kildare County Council will continue to encourage cooperation among all individuals and organisations in the county and will strive to ensure that everyone has an equal chance to participate in the information society.

We will support initiatives that aim to create a comprehensive and inclusive Information Society in Kildare in 2002 and beyond. The network reflects the diversity that exists in Kildare and I hope it connects with as many people and organisations as possible in the coming year.
