Labour proposal calls for return of local assemblies
Athy might see the return of its former Town Council if a Labour Bill gets through the Oireachtas in September.
The Irish Daily Mirror reported on Saturday -7th July- that the Labour proposal would see the establishment of a ‘Local Government Commission’ to consider qualifying criteria for relevant areas.
The plan also envisages similar local representative structures for a number of other towns including Maynooth and Celbridge.
