Mondello Competition to find new Saloon Racing Star

Mondello Park will introduce a new style 'Become A Racing Driver' competition for 2014.

The winner of this challenge, which is only open to drivers who are over eighteen and have never held a car racing or speed competition licence, will receive a fantastic prize package worth over €10,000, to include a free seasons racing in the 2014 Patch Fiesta Championship.

Unlike previous contests run by Mondello Park where qualification has been spread over a year, this new initiative will run on a single day on March 2nd. On this day drivers will compete in groups of nine for a place in the final. Each driver will receive ten laps in one of the circuit’s identical saloon racing Mazda 3's, with an instructor alongside to guide them, following which the fastest driver from each group will progress to the competition final later that day. In the final, each driver will receive 8 laps and the driver who sets the fastest time will win the competition and go on to race in the 2014 Patch Fiesta Championship, with the opening round on March 16th.

The full prize package begins with attendance at a Motorsport Ireland Licence Course, the fee for which will be covered by Mondello Park. Next the winning driver will be kitted out by Murray Motorsport with a Race Suit, Helmet, Gloves and Boots, which will be theirs to keep. Following tuition from some of Mondello Park's top race instructors, the chosen diver will compete in the ten round Patch Fiesta Series which takes place over six events between March and September. All running costs will be covered, including provision of a car, testing fees, entry fees, fuel and tyres, as well as ongoing driver coaching.

Entries for the March 2nd event are now being taken. Spaces are limited and the cost is just €129.00 per driver.

To find out more, entrants can call the Mondello Park office on 045-860200 or see the Mondello Park web site www.mondellopark.ie, where the full competition terms and conditions are also available.
