Naas local History Group will launch two books on the revolutionary period on Monday 5 December in the Town House Hotel at 8 p.m. Leinster Leader editor, Ronan Early, is the guest of honour and will launch the two books – ‘Looking Back at Revolutionary Kildare’ and ‘A rebel’s desk’ – both of which have a Leinster Leader connection.

‘Looking Back at Revolutionary Kildare’ is a compilation of articles by columnist Liam Kenny from his popular Leinster Leader Looking Back series. The book is a selection of articles with Co. Kildare connections to the revolutionary period from 1912-1916 and the illustrations are a series of rarely-seen postcards sent to a family in Broadford, Naas, from Dublin during the turbulent year of 1916.

‘A rebel’s desk. Seaumas and Michael O’Kelly, Leinster Leader editors in a revolutionary time,’ is compiled and edited by James Durney with Liam Kenny. The book is a compilation of essays on the two brothers by James Durney, Co. Kildare Historian in Residence, Liam Kenny, Leinster Leader columnist, Alfie Sweeney, nephew of the O’Kellys, David Morton, an American poet, with a foreword by current Leinster Leader editor, Ronan Early. The publication also contains Michael O’Kellys witness statement given to the Bureau of Military History and many rare and family photographs of the two brothers, including a copy of a painting of Seamus by artist Stella Solomons.

Both books are published by Naas Local History Group and are on sale from 5 December at €10.00
