‘The Named Body’ - Pauline Keena

Medium: Neon tube light

This work by Pauline Keena is made of neon lighting. Dan Flavin was the first artist to become known for using neon lighting as an artistic material, although he, unlike Keena, used straight commercial neon tubes. Neon has been used by a number of artists since Flavin, often used in text-based art like Keena’s piece. The Turner prize-winning artist Martin Creed is one such artist who has used neon in this way in his work “Everything is Going to be Alright”.
